Vehicle classes for cost tracking

A vehicle class is a cost profile, a rate per kilometre and per hour, that you assign to one or more vehicles, for example Prime mover or B-double trailer. Without a vehicle class, an own-fleet trip’s cost is treated as zero, which understates your true margin.

How the cost is calculated

When a trip completes, its distance comes from the difference between the start and end odometer readings, and its duration from the actual start and end times. That cost is then split across the order legs carried on the trip, by spaces, then pallets, then weight, whichever is set on the order, so heavier or bulkier freight carries a fair share of the cost.

Where to manage classes

Vehicle Classes has its own page under Fleet; assign a class to each vehicle from Equipment Entry. If you change a class’s rates later, existing completed trips aren’t retroactively repriced automatically — only new trips use the new rates unless you explicitly reprice.
